Introduction
SASOnline is a new service for the George Mason University community offered through the office of Sexual Assault Services. Below is some information that may help you access SASOnline.
What is SASOnline?
It is a free and confidential service that provides some online support on issues of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/partner violence. Once you contact SASOnline, an advocate will respond to your message within 24 hours. Your personal information will not be used for any research purposes.
This is not an instant messaging service and should not be used in an emergency. If this is an emergency, contact 911 or the SAS 24-hour cell phone at 703-380-1434.
Who should use SASOnline?
Victims/Survivors, significant others, and concerned members of the George Mason University community can access this service. If you are not affiliated with this university, please contact the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline at www.rainn.org or by calling 1-800-656-HOPE.
Why would I use SASOnline?
SASOnline will provide you information and personal support to help you make well-informed decisions about the following:
* recovery from an incident of interpersonal violence
* legal options, both on and off campus
* medical options, both on and off campus
*referrals to resources, both on and off campus
*information and support for family, friends, and concerned members
*information on how you can help and support a victim/survivor

Who is an SASOnline Advocate?
An advocate is a Mason student or staff member who is well-trained in issues relating to interpersonal violence, to include sexual assault, dating/partner violence, and stalking.
Does SASOnline provide ongoing help?
SASOnline has been created to offer support for issues of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/partner violence. This may include more than one contact with an online advocate in order to answer your questions and clarify the responses. If you are seeking counseling or continuing advocacy, you will be directed to resources on and off campus.

The information you exchange with an advocate through SASOnline is transmitted via a secure email communications application. This service operated by the Office of Sexual Assault Services is only for members of George Mason University community, including students, faculty, staff and concerned others.
‘SASOnline’ is not an instant messaging service or a crisis helpline and should not be used in an emergency.

If information shared suggests that there is a substantial likelihood of physical harm to self or others, information may be shared to protect you or other persons.
For an SASOnline advocate to respond to your message, you will need to provide your current email address. This address may be your Mason email address or another alternative email address.
